Saish Kapadi, IIT Madras pass out presently pursuing studies in IIM, Bengaluru & Venkatesh also alumnus of IIT Madras pursuing his Ph.D (Kanpur) have developed a device which can visually detect the gap between individuals and play a proximity alert sound through audio output, for any violation of the social distancing norms. It ensures that proper distance is maintained between the person and on the other side.
It is an established fact that COVID-19 infection will not spread if the social distance of over 1 meter is maintained. Encouraged by this rule, both of them utilized their knowledge, skill and put in hours of study and have come out with simple, yet very useful Physical Distance Measuring Kit. It is inexpensive, user friendly and fulfills the requirement of social distancing by giving warning ‘Bleep Sound’.
Saish Kapadi, one of the innovators from Goa (Bicholim) has shared, it is useful in Doctors Consultation rooms, OPD, Cash counters, nursing stations of Hospital. It is also useful in Malls, Banks, Reservation counters, religious places, etc. Once anyone comes closer than 1 Meter it makes the alarm sound to protect individuals from possible contact of infection.
It is simple in design the readymade components are used. It has an ultra sensor (usually used in reverse parking of car), installed on a stand that is detachable. The manufacturing cost is approximately 2000/-. It is detachable and can be shifted from one place to another. Presently, In most of the malls, hospitals, institutions, government offices, restaurants, either fence/ rope, wire, chains are used to keep social distancing which looks ugly and does not go well with the ambiance of those places.
