Highlights of Health Sector; Bommai Budget-2023

Basavraj Bommai Presented State Budget – 2023 on 17th Feb, 2023. Rs. 1515 Cr is earmarked for health sector. Salient features of the health budget is as follows

  • Cancer Hospitals at Shimogga & Kalburgi. AIIMS model Hospital at Raichur & Super-specialty hospital at Kumta will come up in next budget.
  • Four IVF Centers will come-up in Bengaluru, Hubballi, Mysore & Kalburgi at the budget of Rs. 6 Cr.
  • Mother & Child Hospital at Savanur (Haveri-Dist).
  • Khanapur, Anekal, Shirahatti, Shringeri, Yelandur, Nelamangal & Hosakote Talukas have Community Health Centres which will be upgraded to 100 beds Taluka Hospitals

  • To provide higher specialty care (tertiary care) to the needy patients 50 beds critical care blocks will be established at Kolar, Bagalkot, Yadgir, Gadag, Chikkamagalur. In Tumkur & Bengaluru 100 beds critical care blocks will be established.
  • Govt. has taken various steps to bring down maternal morality as a result of that maternal morality has come down to 19 from 83 per lakh deliveries.
  • Efforts will be made include many more hospitals under Arogya Karnataka-Ayushman Bharath scheme.
  • In an effort to bring down anemia rates in women and to reduce malnourishment among children 100 Cr. Rupees is earmarked in this budget for creating awareness, investigations and treatment.
  • Janaushadi’ Centres across the states will be increased.
  • All the districts will have handheld portable X ray machines to investigate TB patients at their door steps at the cost of Rs. 12.50 Cr.
  • Vatsalya Scheme’ for health examination of 0-6 year children.
  • 129 Labs across state will be established to make the test easily accessible to common men.
  • Karnataka to start six ESI hospitals and 28 Community Health Centres and ten Women and Child Care hospitals.
  • For those who have been victims of acid attacks their monthly financial aid is increased from Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 10,000/-

Basavaraj Bommai concluded his two-and-a-half hour long budget speech by stating this is a “revenue-surplus” budget as the revenue receipts were more than revenue expenditure by ₹402 crore for the first time in Karnataka since the pandemic .
