The tiny town far from the district headquarters of Belagavi, Harugeri village (Raibag taluka) was deprived of basic health care facilities & education institutions. People from this area for all their health care needs were entirely dependent on Miraj (Maharashtra).
Young and dynamic Doctor Couple after successfully completing their Post graduation in Medicine & Obst-Gyn took a firm decision to serve the people of this area who were deprived of basic health care facilities. Dr. Laxman & Dr. Varsha Jambagi’s determination and desire to serve the community was so strong and they took a firm decision to choose their own village ‘Harugeri’ as their ‘Karma Bhoomi’ from where Dr. Laxman Jambagi hail. It is a notion in Medicine; on completion of the Post Graduation medical professionals prefer bigger cities which are both lucrative and comfortable. But, the aspiration to serve the vulnerable section of the society and burning desire to transform their lives of the people was the sole endeavor to start practice in Harugeri said Dr. Laxman Jambagi.
The couples were well aware of the United Nations eport that, 75% of the health infrastructure in India; including doctors and specialists and other health resources are concentrated in urban areas whereas only 28% of India’s population lives. The rural population of India is around 72% and yet there is a chronic lack of trained doctors & proper medical facilities for the rural community. The sick & sufferings are massive in the rural community and low socio-economic factor is the barrier in the utilization of health care facilities. As per the Health & Family Welfare Ministry report, India needs over 13,000 specialist doctors in rural India, unfortunately, the so-called doctors who come from the rural area also do not serve their own people.
Well aware of these facts, the couple established 50 beds Ashirwad Nursing & Maternity Hospital almost two decades ago. Their zeal, commitment to serve the underprivileged section of the community is internally driven and self motivated. It is the only referral centre and has emerged as the savior for many sick/ailing patients. Compassion, care and top-notch quality treatment is offered to all the patients at their own place. Soon Dr. Jambagi couples won the hearts and minds of local population. All the medical facilities, gadgets, technology available at bigger cities were made available. Complex maternity cases, twins, infertility, intricate hysterectomy, and neonatal care are all handled by Dr. Varsha Jambagi. Being a Physician Dr. Laxman Jambagi manages from neuro to gastroenterology, all medical cases and also handles complex MI cases in ICUs. The amount of confidence & psychological support the couple builds in patients is enormous. Their commitment to medical profession is so high; both of them have dedicated their complete life to uplifting health conditions of people from these border villages.
Establishment of Educational Institutions:
Soon the couples realized that, rural transformation is not just possible by providing health care. The duo’s passion for education made them to venture into establishing educational institutions. To endow rural students with good education, In April, 2003 in memory of his father Dr. Laxman registered Shri. S S Jambagi Memorial Educational Trust. He slowly diversified & stepped in to educational arena.
Ayur College & Hospital
In 2009 he initiated Shri. Sidhivinayak Rural Ayurvedic College with 60 intake capacity and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences, Bengaluru. Ayur College attracts students from far & wide and has emerged as the major Ayur College and has hospital (100 beds), with ladies, boys hostel, auditorium, seminar hall, clinical labs, with all the latest diverse Ayur facilities. Over 300 dedicated staff which includes 50 qualified Ayur teachers. B.Ed, Para medical Course and Nursing College are the other Institutions of importance.

The doctor couple realized that there is a large vacuum and rural students find it extremely difficult to crack NEET, JEE, CET, in the bargain they are deprived of admission to premier Institutions. The concept of launching Jamabagi PU College at outskirts of Belagavi at Honaga emerged from this backdrop. Far from hum-drums of city in silent, tranquil atmosphere amidst natural backdrop Jambagi Integrated PU Science College; the premier residential institution was established in the year 2019. This is only one of its kinds & unique which offer both residential and day boarding facilities to students.
