Covid & Heart – Dr. Suresh V Patted

As you are all aware, we are living in the difficult period of century. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown a spot light on health care profession, healthcare system and individual healthcare warriors. We do not know what is in store for us in the days to come, during this pandemic. But we definitely know that taking care of the heart (in both healthy & diseased) patients is very important and goes a long way to save us. Recently in one of the study it has been shown that 80% of the COVID deaths are because of heart involvement.

Just to reiterate Cardiac disease is the most common cause of death in the world. Cardiac disease has many risk factors like smoking, diabetes, high BP and Obesity. To add to it during pandemic time we have seen that patients are scared to go to hospital to seek medical care because of possible risk of developing disease by coming in contact with COVID patients in the hospital.

We can all look after our hearts and help to prevent Cardiac disease by eating healthy diet, saying no to smoking, doing regular exercise, yoga, meditation and taking regular medication if any.

If you are suffering from heart disease, diabetes, high BP and high cholesterol don’t let COVID-19 to stop you attending regular checkups either in person or over teletalk. During this pandemic period, I request you all to never let an opportunity to go, To thank & encourage the COVID warriors who are working day and night tirelessly.

The new normal as per WHO is to avoid 3 (Three) “C”s.

Confined and closed spaces.

1) Crowded places (with many people nearby)

2) Close contact seeing (especially where people have close range conversation)

In all probability soon there will be vaccine for COVID-19. But Mask and safe distance is going to be new normal for us even after this pandemic gets over.
