Causes and Preventive measures to curb diabetes

On the occasion of World Diabetes day on 14th November 2022 , KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Department of MBA had organized an Interactive session with Dr.Neeta Deshpande, renowned Diabetologist and Bariatric Physician on the topic “Causes and Preventive measures to curb diabetes” . On this occasion a free blood pressure and sugar checkup camp was organized under the governance of Dr.Mahesh Sattigeri.


Speaking on the occasion Dr.Neeta Deshpande said Type 1 diabetes can start at any age. But it often starts during childhood or teen years. Type 2 diabetes, the more common type, can develop at any age.

Type 2 diabetes is more common in people older than 40 years, she added that the primary reason for occurrence of type two diabetes is life style disorder. On this occasion she said that one is more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are not physically active and are overweight or have obesity. Extra weight sometimes causes insulin resistance and is common in people with type 2 diabetes. The location of body fat also makes a difference. Extra belly fat is linked to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and heart and blood vessel disease. She urged the audience to eat healthy, exercise and be alert about the signals that the body indicates.

Principal, Dr.Jayant Kittur said that part of a treatment plan for diabetes will involve learning about diabetes, how to manage it, and how to prevent complications. Your doctor, diabetes educator, or other health care professional will help you learn what you need to know so you are able to manage your diabetes as effectively as possible.
