The heart is the most important organ of the body and it is expected to supply adequate oxygenated blood to all parts of the body. Sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, stress, and consumption of junk food are causing major problems to the precious organ” Heart”. The young & productive age group are falling prey to the heart disease. Chest pain (Angina), pressure, heaviness, and breathlessness are being increasingly complained by young patients.

Accelerated Blood Pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, raised cholesterol levels, obesity, smoking and consumption of alcohol, family history of heart diseases, low physical activity, excessive stress and eating high salt junk food have emerged as the major cause of an increase in Heart disease, particularly in India.

A daily brisk walk of 3-4 Kms at least 5 days in a week, aerobics, exercise all can help to reduce the burden of heart disease. Swimming and cycling can also help to improve your heart function.

According to Reuters, recent studies conducted in Sweden and India show that yoga can reverse biochemical changes associated with high blood pressure, obesity, and high blood sugar. Waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar, and triglycerides were significantly lower, and “good” HDL cholesterol levels were higher in the yoga group as compared to a control group, report researchers in the journal Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice.
