Empowerment of women and providing leadership to women in an entire spectrum of organizations is the essence of the success of any enterprise opined Dr. Richard Saldanha, Chief Cardiac Surgeon of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital at National Conference of Undergraduate Medical Sciences students at KLE Convention Centre, Belagavi. He advocated for women’s leadership and justified his statement by quoting examples of innumerable industries and institutions that have outperformed when compared to the organizations managed by male folks.
In his keynote address on the subject “Reflections of a Doctor” he shared over four decades of his professional experience vividly. Till today the medical profession is the first choice of the students across the globe. It is rewarding to be doctor, it has challenges and medical professional derives satisfaction of alleviating the sufferings of humanity.
Medical science is a perfect amalgamation of advanced science and human interaction. He called on young medical graduates to update their knowledge as medical science is dynamic and constantly changing. The impact of information science and artificial intelligence on medical science has brought tremendous change, Dr. Richard advised to update and benefit from interdisciplinary scientific research. The life of a Doctor is demanding, tough and full of challenges he asked the budding doctors to be compassionate and caring for patients and their relatives. He also advised to visit foreign medical schools to enhance their skills, knowledge and imbibe their professional work culture. Dr. Richard shared, he regularly visits the best of medical schools abroad and they offer tremendous learning opportunities and exposure to the latest techniques and skills.
He also cautioned doctors to need to be role models, healthy and fit. He advised medicos to take care of their family and knit strong social relationships with friends. He advocated doctors to build a strong relationship with patients. Your healing touch, gentle look must be able to instill confidence in patients.
In his concluding remarks, he stressed that organ donation and transplantation is the future of medicine and saving the life of a person is a priority of a doctor.
