The Neurosurgeons at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital, Belagavi have successfully excised the brain tumor in a High school going boy and have given him a new lease of life.
A 10th class studying student from a remote village of Khanapur taluk presented with complaints of vomiting, headache, giddiness and episodes of seizures referred from Yellur Road KLES Centenary Charitable Hospital to Neuro Surgery Department of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital.
On detailed evaluation of the Patient & MRI scan of the brain it was found that there was a large right hemispheric mass lesion involving frontal, temporal and parietal region with significant mass effect (brain tumor).
Dr. Prakash Mahantshetti & his team operated on this young boy for over 3hours and successfully excised the brain tumor (i.e. right fronto-temporo-parietal craniectomy and excision of tumor). The tumour was removed from the brain, by craniotomy surgery, it involved making an opening in the skull, precise removing of tumour without causing any damage to surrounding brain tissue. The prevalence of brain tumour is common among adults but rare in children. In this case brain mass was extending from front portion of the brain to involve half of brain which was removed.
Post Op patient responded well, gained consciousness, following commands with no significant neurological deficit. Patient is able to eat, chat, able to walk and do daily living activities independently. The surgery was performed free of cost in Ayushman Bharath scheme. Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chairman KLE Society & Dr. M V Jali, Medical Director of the hospital congratulated the team of surgeons for the successful outcome of the surgery & saving the life of a young boy.
