Life-Saving Heart Procedure at CentraCare Hospital, Belagavi

CentraCare Hospital in Tilakwadi has achieved a significant medical feat, successfully treating a 67-year-old woman from Belagavi suffering from recurrent chest pain and breathlessness. The patient, with a known history of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and two previous stents placed at quaternary Care Hospital at Bengaluru 3 months back referred to CentraCare Hospital.

Dr. Loknath, Cardiologist examined her & performed her angiography which revealed a tight lesion in an artery. Her affected artery was measuring a mere 2 mm in diameter, a size too narrow for conventional stent placement. The traditional angioplasty procedure  of inserting a stent in  a 2 mm small artery was not feasible.

Faced with this complex scenario, Dr. Lokanth, performed an innovative and rarely performed technique: Drug Eluting Balloon (DEB) angioplasty. This advanced procedure involved the use of a specialized balloon coated with medication. Instead of leaving a permanent metallic stent, the drug-eluting balloon is inflated at the site of the blockage. As it expands, it delivers the medication directly into the artery wall. This drug helps to prevent the artery from narrowing again (restenosis) after the procedure. The balloon was deflated and removed, leaving no foreign material behind.

Dr. Lokanth skillfully navigated the narrow artery and successfully opened the critical lesion using the Drug Eluting Balloon. This life-saving intervention has allowed the patient to recover well and she is discharged from CentraCare Hospital.

The patient and her family have expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. Lokanth & to Dr. Shabaz Patel and the entire team at CentraCare Hospital for the exceptional care and successful outcome.
