India has the dubious distinction & labelled as diabetes capital of the world with over 80 million diabetic patients. To reverse the burgeoning trend of diabetes in our country furthermore research and collaborations are essential stressed Prof. Dr. Sanjay Bhadada, President of Endocrine Society of India & teacher par excellence of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science, Chandigarh. He was speaking after inaugurating the 5th Annual Conference of Karnataka Endocrine Society with the theme “Hormone Rhythm” at KLE Convention Centre, Belagavi. The Endocrine Society of India is the largest professional body of endocrinologists India providing a common platform and network for clinicians, and researchers with special interest in endocrinology said Dr. Sanjay.
He urged the participating delegates to learn & understand the management of diabetes in your day to day practice. The Endocrine society of India is engaged in identifying best, young brains in medicine and to train them in endocrine specialties. The medical science will progress only when research & collaborations go hand in hand. Further, the research findings must be useful to the community opined Dr. Sanjay Bhadada. Increase in Obesity, Thyroid, hormonal imbalances, male infertility is being effectively handled by Endocrinologists said Dr. Sanjay.
The medical science looks at western literatures for prevalence of disease and treatment protocols, the time is apt for Indian doctors to generate Indian data, develop Indian treatment modules to treat our own patients said Dr. Nitin Gangane, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of KLE University. He added, the explosion of diabetes in our country and associated long term complications of diabetes needs to be addressed by Indian standardised treatment protocols. He also cautioned the public to stay away from treatment modalities/medications circulated in social media as they are unscientific & harmful.
