Brilliant academician, eminent medical teacher and speaker of a very high caliber Dr. Vijayalakshmi Balekundri, Prof of Paediatric Cardiology at Bengaluru Medical College & Research Institute delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Heart & Heartfulness” on a virtual platform on Sunday, 18th Oct, 2020. The event was organized by Dr. M M Joshi Eye Institute, Dharwad.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Vijaylaxmi highlighted the fact that Sages, Rishis, Saints in India knew the importance of virtuous health. God has gifted a wonderful heart to all of us & we all must use it to display our love, affections and shower positive emotions on friends, family members, and peers. The heart is like a lotus flower and the beauty lies in preserving its innocence opined famous Paediatric Cardiologist.
When you are in depression, stress, negative thought process and turmoil are the heart also experiences the same vibrations. These negative vibrations create the worst impact on the heart. She called on people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, remain jovial even in adverse situations and keep the spirits high to keep the Heart lovely and young. Dr. Vijaylaxmi stressed that Heartfulness comes from evolving a positive mindset, sticking to a regular exercise regimen, reducing body weight and eating a lot of veggies and fruits. In her impeccable style of presentation in ‘Kannada’, she called on the participants to say a big no to three white poisonous found in every Indian kitchen. Foods prepared from Maida; Sugar & Salt need to be drastically cut to keep the Heart young & beating at rhythm.
Excessive tobacco chewing, smoking, regularly eating high calories food, addiction to alcohol and drugs for fun have an adverse impact on health. She expressed her concerns about the increased incidence of cardiac disease in young Indians. Cutthroat competitions, egos and jealous, vehement thoughts are not good for the proper functioning of heart. Love, affection, being with nature, respect for elders and positive emotions can enable Heartfulness. It is a simple, practical way to learn to relax, understand other people, empathize. Meditate and discover the unlimited resources of the heart. With practice, one experiences the calmness from within, leading to the creation of better concentration, inner balance and true wellness of being of the heart explained Dr. Vijyalaxmi.
Our heartbeats 80 times/min, 1,15,200 beats/day. In a day heart pumps 2500-5000 gallons of blood. To keep it healthy regular exercise, yoga, cycling, swimming, or any other form of activity is essential. At the end of her of the talks, she answered the quarries raised by participants. In the end, Dr. Vijaylaxmi also shared her intimate relations with Hubballii city and recalled the initial days she has spent at Hubballi.
