In its endeavour to augment & integrate Traditional Medicine with Modern Medicine, Belagavi based premier Research Institution, Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Tradition Medicine (ICMR-NITM) is conducting two days training program in ““Designing & Conducting Clinical Trials” on 14th & 15th Sept, 2023. Speaking to media reporters Dr. Subarna Roy, Director of ICMR-NITM briefed about development of ICMR, Belagavi centre which had a humble beginning & started its research journey 15 years ago in staff quarters with minimal facilities & 2-3 scientists. Now the Institute boasts of group of talented scientists drawn from diverse fields, new building, labs, learning centre, library, interactive halls and is on threshold of taking-up bigger assignments/projects said Dr. Roy.
The Institute is working in the direction to find solutions for life style diseases, mental disorders, arthritis, infectious diseases, and antibiotic resistance diseases etc. The Scientists of our Institute & outreach program officers are closely working with folk-lore, traditional practioners of this area who use plants, fruits, roots, etc to treat the diseases. Dr. Roy highlighted, Scientists are actively involved in validation of these traditional medicines & study their chemistry, molecular combinations, etc & recommend their usage.
Dr. Roy pointed in the press meet, in its effort to disseminate & build strong scientific temperament among participants (scientists), the pioneers in the field of scientific research are roped in to train the participants in designing & conducting clinical trials. The participants will be empowered with international standard designing & conducting clinical trials which includes subjects like ethics, safety, challenges in clinical trials, sample size calculation, documentation, confidentiality, data management, analysis & publication, etc. by host of ICMR experts which includes Dr. Tejas K Patel (Gorakhpur), Dr. R Balaji (Chennai), Dr. Jaysingh Kshatri (Bhubaneswar), Dr. Vignes Srinivasalu (Chennai), Dr. Banappa (Belagavi), Dr. Gunjan Kumar (New Delhi), Dr. Rizwan (Chennai), Dr. Sarvana Kumar (Chennai), Dr. Aparna Mukharjee (New Delhi), Dr. M S Ganachari (Belagavi).
The participants are drawn from wide spectrum of specialities such as Modern medicine(19), Homeopathy (2), Unani (7), Dental (6), Pharmacy & Basic Sciences one each.
Inauguration program: Inauguration program is scheduled on 14th Sept at 9.30 am. Dr. Padmapriyadarsini C Director, ICMR-NIRT, Chennai, Dr. Shivaprasad Goudar, Director Research Foundation, KAHER, Belagavi are invited as guests who will inaugurate and address the participants.
