COPING TECHNIQUES DURING LOCK DOWN

It is a known fact that human beings are social animals and like to meet, share, interact, party, discuss/differ with each other on a variety of issues. The COVID-19 pandemic has engulfed the entire world is wreaking havoc in the globe.

As the virus act swiftly on the host body and no definitive treatment module in the near future social distancing, lockdown, frequent hand wash and wearing masks are the only options. It is for the first time in history, all the countries have come to grinding halt and lockdown has emerged as the only option to keep the virus at bay. Indians particularly are socially vibrant and have strong family and community connections, unlike the west. 21 days are trying and testing times to remain in-doors. Many of whom remain in-door, aloof may encounter psychological problems particularly aged couples and whose children are away from home. This is the new challenge even to active working men/women, house makers, children, youth who are forced to remain in four walls. The time of crisis shouldn’t be viewed as punitive action and must be used for creative and productive activities. We can sharpen our skills by continuously engaging in creative, productive activities. This is the time to imbibe new techniques, newer learning opportunities and complete all your pending works by being at home. You and your family members could engage in a few of the following activities this will transform your quality of life and outlook of your family and home.

• Wake up early in the morning and switch on “ASTHA” channel and learn to perform simple Yogic exercise, practice Pranayama and start Meditation. (This builds the immune system and radiates a lot of positivity). Engage in meditation/Yogic exercise in the evening also

Go to a terrace and pose your body to morning sunlight, the body will be enriched with Vitamin D. (Your bones will strengthen, Skin glows and calcium increases). In the night sky watching reduces stress.

WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY – for a minimum of 20 secs.

Take a long bath, perform Pooja (Worshiping) and enjoy breakfast.

Reading of newspapers, scrolling through mobile WhatsApp messages and watch entertainment /Discovery channels and also watch Ramayan-Mahabharath (advised to rarely watch 24X7 news channels)

Never remain glued to the chair for more than 30 mins. Remain active throughout the day.

God has gifted some sort of skills to us like Rangoli, cooking, writing story/poem, music, photography, drawing, etc., work on these skills and exhibits on social media.

Make a call to your children, friends, and relatives. encourage them to remain indoors.

Engage in helping your spouse in the majority of the household chores.

If you are on medication never miss and call your family Physician for any assistance. Smile a lot, walk in the home.

Eat plenty of raw veggies, fruits, and nutrition-rich food.

Saltwater gargle, green tea, warm soups and enjoy snacks. (Build your immune system) Drink plenty of water.

Open your old cupboard discard old clothes, press and arrange clothes neatly. This is the time to flush out all unwanted times like papers, books, photos and take up daily cleaning of all the parts of the home.

You should educate your community regarding the importance of social distancing and lock-down. Read good books, be happy and inculcate a positive attitude.
