Biometric attendance must for Medical College faculties

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it compulsory for faculty at medical colleges to register for an Aadhaar-Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) before inspection. This is part of a crackdown on ghost faculty, who are paid for teaching but do not actually do the work.

Any deficiency found in the application submitted by a medical college will result in their application being rejected. This means that medical colleges must ensure that their applications are complete and accurate in order to avoid being penalized.

The NMC has also said that physical inspection will not provide any immunity to the medical colleges with respect to any deficiency in the applications or AEBAS data. This means that even if a medical college passes a physical inspection, it could still be penalized if there is a problem with their AEBAS data.

One nation, one registration platform for Docs:

The NMC is also planning to launch a ‘one nation, one registration platform’ for doctors. This will create a single database of all registered doctors in India. The platform will be used to verify the credentials of doctors and to track their continuing medical education (CME) credits.
