Arogya Sanjieevani to be launched from 1st April

Health care has become expensive and beyond the reach of the common men. Due to the burgeoning cost of Health care many patients are deprived of quality health care. In our country, less than 5% of the population has health insurance, those who do not have insurance coverage end up paying hospital bills out their pocket which is a huge economic burden. Health insurance awareness among masses is poor and acceptance to purchase health coverage by paying premium is worst in our country. A lot of confusion persists among people to purchase which insurance, how much premium to be paid, what is covered and doubts persist overpayments will be made by insurance agency when it is required.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has announced a standard product with all the basic understandable features. This product is named ‘Arogya Sanjeevani Yojana’, followed by the name of the insurer. For example, if Max Bupa is providing this standard health insurance plan then the name of the product would be ‘Arogya Sanjeevani Policy – Max Bupa’. A universal name makes it easier for people to determine its unique features, as the product is standardized and not company-specific.

The policy will be offered from 18 to 65 years of age group population at a minimal annual premium (not yet defined) and renewal every year. Individuals or entire family could opt for the health policy. The premium could be paid annually, half-yearly or quarterly. Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani specialties can also offer treatment under the Arogya Sanjeevani scheme. The policy will cover all primary diseases and will not cover certain diseases (Details awaited). The policy will also cover daycare, dental, plastic surgery, ambulance charges, etc.
