Tragedy struck the family of a Hirebudnur village of Savadatti-Taluka when a 24-year-old Hanamanth Sarvi met with a fatal road accident. He was rushed to KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital in critical condition; Hanamanth fought bravely but succumbed to severe head injuries, leaving behind his young daughter of 2 years and wife, who was in the advanced stage of pregnancy.
In the face of unimaginable grief, Hanmanth’s family, despite their poor economic background and lack of education, made a courageous decision of donating organs; that has sent a positive message far beyond their village. Recognizing Hanamanth’s potential to save lives even in death, they chose to donate his liver, kidneys, and eyes, giving a new lease of life to three individuals and restoring sight to two others. Their selflessness in the darkest hour set a profound example of compassion and humanity.
The family’s sorrow was compounded when Hanamanth’s 2-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease known as Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) which was promptly diagnosed by Dr. Veeresh Manvi, Senior Paediatric Cardiologist & advised heart surgery for closing the hole in the heart. Understanding the urgency of the situation, the Rotary Club of Belgaum (South) swiftly intervened with their “Gift of Life” initiative, securing funding for her critical heart surgery. Under the expert care of Dr. Gananjay Salve and team of Cardiac Anaesthetists, the surgery was successful, bringing new hope to the family. It may be recalled that this is the 15th child operated under ‘Gift of Life’ which is being funded by Rotary International with matching grants from Rotary Club of Belgaum (South).
In a heart-warming gesture from the Rotary Club Belgaum South team members consisting of Rtn. Neelsh Patil, Rtn. Bhushan Mohitre, Grant Coordinator Rtn. Chitanaya Kulkarni & Rtn. Arati Angadi visited the hospital & interacted with grandparents of the child & have exhibited their compassion and support during a challenging times of the family. Wishing the child a speedy recovery and expressing gratitude to the doctors highlights their appreciation for the medical care provided. It’s pleasing to see community organizations like Rotary Clubs offering such caring gestures to families in need said Dr. Mohan Gan, Head of Cardiac Surgery.
Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chairman of KLE Society, expressed deep gratitude to the Rotary Club of Belgaum (South) for their timely support, emphasizing how their intervention had saved yet another precious life.
Amidst the family’s mourning, a ray of hope emerged with the birth of Hanamanth’s son just 5 days ago. For those who knew Hanamanth, it felt like a sign that his spirit had returned to bless his loved ones once more.
