Belagavi, 19th November 2019 : The Department of Medical Education (DOME), J N Medical College, and the University Department of Health Professions Education (UDEHP), KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), Belagavi in collaboration with the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education & Research (FAIMER) USA and the Association of Health Professions (AHPE) India have jointly organized the 11th National Conference of Health Professions Education (NCHPE-2019) at KLE Centenary Convention Centre, Belagavi on 21st to 23rd November 2019. The main theme of the conference is “Competency Based Medical Education – Transformative Learning: from Theory to Practice”.
The Inaugural function of NCHPE 2019 was held on Friday, the 22nd November 2019 at the Dr. H B Rajashekar Hall (600 Capacity) of KLE Centenary Convention Centre, KAHER’s JNMC campus, Belagavi. Dr Prabhakar Kore MP, Chancellor, KAHER & Chairman, KLE Society, Belagavi was the Chief Guest. Prof Dr S Sacchidanand, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, Bengaluru, Dr. Mark Tykocinski, Provost of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA, Dr. William P Burdick, Vice-President, FAIMER Philadelphia, USA, Dr. Ara Tekian, Professor at University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, Dr. Nima Rege, President – AHPE and Dr. Anshu, Secretary – AHPE were the Guests of Honour. Prof. (Dr.) V D Patil, Director – Hospital Development and New Projects, KAHER was present.
More than 450 delegates representing various health science institutions from all over India and Abroad attended the conference. Three Plenary Sessions and Four Panel Discussions had been organized. 145 Scientific Papers / Posters were presented by delegates on 22nd – 23rd November 2019. 16 Pre-conference workshops (Full Day / Half Day) on various themes on health professions education were organised on 21st November 2019. The Karnataka Medical Council has allotted Four Credit Hours for the conference delegates and Two Credit Hours for the delegates of Pre-Conference Workshops.
On this occasion “WHO Collaborating Centre for Research in Maternal and Perinatal Health” (which was earlier Women’s and Children’s Health Research Unit) of JNMC, KAHER, Belagavi (co-ordinated by Dr. S S Goudar, Professor of Physiology) and the newly built “Microbiology Skill Laboratory” sponsored by the Vision Group on Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Karnataka (co-ordinated by Dr. Jyoti M Nagmoti, Professor of Microbiology) was inaugurated by Dr. Prabhakar Kore MP, Chancellor, KAHER & Chairman, KLE Society, Belagavi. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated the activities of Department of Medical Education leading the changes in medical education and technology as Regional Centre and Advanced Nodal Centre of Medical Council of India for training the medical faculty from four states viz. Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Goa.
Dr. N.S.Mahantashetti, Principal, J.N.Medical College and Organizing Chairperson welcomed. Dr. V.A.Kothiwale, Registrar introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Prabhakar Kore. The function was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The revised Brochure of JNMC Women’s and Children’s Health Research Unit was released by Dr. Mark Tykocinski on this occasion.
The newly established “Microbiology Skill Laboratory” sponsored by the Vision Group on Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of Karnataka (co-ordinated by Dr. Jyoti M Nagmoti, Professor of Microbiology) was inaugurated by Dr. S.Sachhidanand, Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, Bengaluru.
The e-Souvenir of the NCHPE-2019 Conference was released by Dr. William Burdick, Vice-President, FAIMER, Philadelphia, USA. Speaking on the occasion, he said ‘FAIMER is good portal for disseminating the medical education research’.
The Certificates to eight Under-Graduate Medical students who attended one month observership at Thomas Jefferson University, USA under student-echange program were distributed by Dr. Mark Tykocinski, Provost and Dr. Richard Derman, Associate Provost, Thomas Jefferson University, USA. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated that India has been doing good service in medical education and health research.
Association for Health Professions Educator (AHPE) India News Bulletin – 2019 was released by Dr. Nima Rege, President, AHPE.
Annual Report of the activities of AHPE was read by Dr. Anshu, Secretary, AHPE.
Dr. B.S.Kodkany, Dr. H.B.Rajashekhar, Dr. D.K.Srinivas, Dr. C.S.Patil and Dr. Vijaya Naik who were the pioneers in establishing the Department of Medical Education since 1989 were felicitated on this occasion.
Prof. (Dr.) Vivek A. Saoji, Vice Chancellor, KAHER presided over the Inaugural Function. In his presidential address, he urged the delegates to enjoy the ambience and take home good memories. He also congratulated the organizing committee for excellent arrangement made for conduct of the event.
Dr. Jyoti M.Nagmoti, Organizing Secretary proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Roopa Bellad, Organizing Secretary presented bouquets and mementos to the dignitaries.
Dr. Mark Tykocinski delivered key note address on the theme ‘Key Note Address’ on the theme: “Implementation of successful curricular reforms: Experience from Thomas Jefferson University”.
