An 85-year-old War-veteran of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and proud ex-serviceman has successfully undergone a Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) at CentraCare Hospital, Tilakwadi, significantly improving his quality of life.
The patient, who had been experiencing progressively worsening difficulty in passing urine, retention of urine, and lower abdominal discomfort, was diagnosed with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) by Dr. Amey Phatade, Consultant Urologist at CentraCare Hospital. BPH is a condition, where an enlarged prostate gland compresses the urethra, impacting urinary flow.
Dr. Phatade performed the minimally invasive (Endoscopic) TURP procedure, widely recognized as the gold standard for BPH management. The surgery was conducted via the natural urinary passage, eliminating the need for any external incisions. Dr. Phatade successfully removed the obstructing prostate tissue, bringing immediate relief to the patient’s symptoms.

The procedure was remarkably bloodless due to meticulous surgical technique and intraoperative precision. Dr. Srivatsa provided excellent anesthesia backup. The veteran’s postoperative recovery was exceptionally smooth, with the patient mobilizing within 24 hours of the surgery. He is being discharged on the third postoperative day, experiencing full continence, no pain, and a significant improvement in urinary flow.
The patient’s son, also aನ ex-serviceman, expressed profound gratitude for the exceptional care his father received. “The hospital nurses were highly attentive, and Dr. Phatade’s surgical expertise gave my father a new lease on life. We are deeply thankful to the entire CentraCare staff,” he stated.
