Successful Life-Saving Cardiac Surgery Performed on Farmer at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital

A 40-year-old male farmer from a village in Bailhongal-Taluka has been given a new lease on life after undergoing a complex and critical cardiac surgery at the Cardiac Surgery Department of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital. The patient, who was in a critical condition, was rushed to KLES Hospital from a private hospital of Bailhongal. He presented with severe tearing chest pain radiating to his back, breathlessness, intense abdominal pain, fever, and anxiety.

Dr. Sameer Ambar, a cardiologist, diagnosed the patient with Type A  Aortic Dissection, a life-threatening condition where a tear occurs in the wall of the aorta, the body’s largest artery responsible for carrying oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body. This condition required immediate surgical intervention to prevent death.

A team led by Dr. Parshvanath . B. Patil and Dr. Darshan & Dr. Ranjit Naik with anesthesia support from Dr. Anand Vagarali, Dr. Sharnagouda Patil and Dr. Abhijeet Sitole, performed the emergency surgery. The procedure involved grafting the torn part of the aorta and repairing the aortic valve, lasting almost seven hours. The patient responded well to the surgery, was out of the ICU within two days, and was discharged on the seventh day after the operation.

The farmer, hailing from a low socio-economic background, received financial relief through the Arogya Karnataka – Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which covered the cost of the surgery. His relatives expressed profound gratitude to the doctors and hospital staff for their excellent and timely treatment.

Col. Dr. Dayanand, Medical Director of the hospital, congratulated the team for their outstanding work in saving the patient’s life.
