Dr. R V Asokan has been elected as President Indian Medical Association (IMA) for the year 2024. A seasoned professional with four decades of dedicated service to the medical profession. Dr. Asokan, formerly the National Secretary General of IMA, is officially appointed as IMA President on 1st Jan, 2024.
Having played pivotal roles within the IMA throughout his extensive career, Dr. Asokan’s leadership credentials are further emphasized by his prior tenure as the President of the Kerala IMA from 1997 to 2000. During this period, under his guidance, the Kerala IMA initiated the ground-breaking biomedical waste management project, IMAGE (IMA Goes Eco-friendly). This visionary project established a common biomedical waste treatment and disposal facility at Kanjikodu in Palakkadu, aimed at scientifically managing healthcare-generated biomedical waste in Kerala.
Originally hailing from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Asokan embarked on his medical journey four decades ago in Punalur, Kollam district, Kerala. His noteworthy contributions to the medical profession include the establishment of the esteemed institution, Deen Hospital. IMA members are of the strong opinion that Dr. Asokan’s presidency would be a resounding success, benefiting the entire medical community nationwide.
