In a significant address, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman highlighted India’s substantial contribution to global vaccine production, stating that nearly 60% of all vaccines utilized worldwide are manufactured in India. The announcement was made during the release of the book titled ‘India’s Vaccine Growth Story – From Cowpox to Vaccine Maitry,’ authored by Sajjan Singh Yadav, Additional Secretary in the Finance Ministry.
The Finance Minister praised the efforts of Indian scientists, acknowledging their pivotal role in establishing India as a global superpower in vaccine production. She emphasized the country’s singular contribution to the world in terms of vaccine manufacturing and supply.
Sithraman underscored India’s unique DNA and its temperament to build immunity solutions for public life and citizens. She highlighted the remarkable progress made during the Covid lockdown period, where India successfully produced a vaccine that played a crucial role in saving lives globally.
Furthermore, the Finance Minister commended the ongoing efforts in the country to achieve double vaccination for every citizen. She acknowledged the challenges involved in both vaccine production and the execution of large-scale vaccination campaigns, stating, “Vaccines have saved so many of our lives, and today we are very clearly double dosing every citizen. It is not easy, both to produce and to execute it at that scale.”
The release of the book and the Finance Minister’s statements reflect India’s commitment to global public health and the nation’s pivotal role in combating the Covid-19 pandemic through vaccine production and distribution.
