The dream of having medical colleges in every district and improving the health standards of needy citizens has received a major jolt as there are no requisite teaching faculty at Haveri Institute of Medical Science (HIMS). It is the home District of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.
The medical college started functioning in Nov, 2022 and the orientation and a few initial classes were handled by KIMS faculty. Anatomy, Physiology, and Bio-Chemistry classes are foundation subjects that are not dealt with in great detail. Students are finding it difficult to cope with the course and have expressed their dismay with the present state of teaching.
The Medical Education Minister should take note of the hardship faced by students and appoint faculty on priority. Dr. Udya Mulgund, Dean of HIMS has assured that the recruitment procedure for faculty is complete and faculty would join in 2-3 days.
