World Cancer Day is observed across the globe on 4th February to create awareness in prevention of cancer, to encourage early detection, and treatment. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to substantially reduce the burden of cancer and death caused by cancer disease said Dr. Imtiyaz Ahamad, Administrator of KLE Cancer Hospital. He was speaking after inaugurating the awareness program organised on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rajsekhar Somnatti, Administrator-Clinical services of KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital said 30-50% of all cancer cases are preventable. He stressed; Prevention offers the most cost-effective long-term approach for the control of cancer. Chewing of tobacco, excess consumption of alcohol, environmental factors, indiscriminate use of pesticides, too much mental stress could trigger the disease. Dr. Somnatti advocated for life style modifications in prevention of cancer.
Lung & oral cancers are leading cause of cancers in men and breast cancer, cancer of cervix is leading cause of cancers in women. He advised patients and their attender’s cancer does not mean death, early & regular treatment, medication and by evolving positive attitude you can fight the cancer. Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chairman of the KLE Society has envisioned state-of-the-art Cancer Hospital in Nehrunagar and is in near completion state with all world class facilities for treatment for entire gamut of Cancer diseases & will soon be dedicated to the needs of patients said Dr. Somnatti.
