Inauguration of the 3rd International Conference on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health at KLE Centenary Convention Centre at KLE JN Medical College Campus, Belagavi

It is important that we take the best of technology and science to people in need” said Dr Prabhakar Kore, Honorable Chairman KLE Society and Chancellor KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research. He was addressing the gathering at the Inauguration of the 3rd International Conference on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health at KLE Centenary Convention Centre at KLE JN Medical College Campus, Belagavi.
Expressing satisfaction over the accomplishments of the global collaboration involving World Health Organization, National Institutes of Health, USA, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Thomas Jefferson University and other with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, Indian Council for Medical Research and the Women and Children’s Health Research Unit at KLE, he expressed satisfaction that the research work done has been able to define Global and National Policy. This has also positively impacted the lives of thousands of mothers, new borns and children across the globe.
Welcoming the gathering Dr Shivaprasad Goudar, Director Research, JNMC Women and Children’s Health Research Unit, JN Medical College, provided an overview of the activities and projects undertaken over the past 22 years since its establishment.
Dr Richard Derman, Provost, Thomas Jefferson University, USA released the brochure of the Research Unit. Speaking on the occasion he recalled the journey over the years and the challenges and expressed satisfaction over the success of the collaboration.
Senior doctors, scientists and researchers from the collaborating national and international agencies including Dr Pushpa Deo Chaudhary, Dr M Indumathi, Dr Bharati Kulkarni, Dr Marion Koso-Thomas, Ms Renata Hoffstetter, Dr Robert Justin Brown, Dr Jian Yan, Dr Elizabeth McClure, Dr Nancy Krebs, Dr Elwyn Chomba, Dr Archana Patel, Dr Richard Derman, Dr Robert Goldenberg and Dr B S Kodkany were felicitated on the occasion.
The conference has participants from 13 countries including United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Switzerland, Guatemala, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Bangladesh and India.
