ICMR-National Institute of Traditional Medicine (ICMR-NITM), Belagavi and KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital and MRC Belagavi executed a Memorandum of Agreement on 6th Sept 2022 for providing health care facilities to the employees, pensioners and the dependents of ICMR-NITM by the KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital following the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) rules and rates. Dr. Subarna Roy, Director ICMR-NITM and Dr.M V Jali, Medical Director & CEO KLES Dr.Prabhakar Kore Hospital & MRC exchanged the MoA in the presence of Dr.Prabhakar Kore, Chairman KLE Society & former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
The programme was also graced by the presence of Dr.Vivek Saoji, Vice Chancellor of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research, faculties of Shri BMK Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, KLE College of Pharmacy and KLE Hospital, Belagavi. ICMR-NITM also felicitated Dr.Prabhakar Kore on being recently awarded the prestigious Honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the reputed Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, USA. In his address to the staff of ICMR-NITM, Dr. Kore recollected the dream of the Late Shri B.Shankarandji, the former Union Health Minister, of establishing a National Institute at Belagavi is now taking shape after 28 years. Congratulating the efforts of the Institute for its work so far, Dr.Prabhakar Kore pledged support and partnership of the KLE institutions in betterment of research and outreach for the benefit of the people of the region and of the country.
Earlier in the day Dr. Prabhakar Kore visited ICMR-NITM and took a tour of the laboratories, museum, herbal garden and the new laboratory building which is expected to be inaugurated soon. Dr.Kore interacted with the scientists and staff of NITM. He stressed upon the importance of showcasing the work done by the institute to the public through media and other outreach programmes. He expressed happiness over the exemplary public-private partnership exhibited in conducting research and outreach activities carried by ICMR-NITM in collaboration other academic and research institutions across the region that include KLES institutes. Further, he urged the need for intensified and focused research activities in developing evidence based integrative health care bringing in the strengths of traditional and modern medical sciences for the benefit of public health. Dr. Subarna Roy acknowledged the continued support of KLES Dr. P B Kore Hospital & KLES institutes in the research activities and said further research activities will be taken up for addressing the public health issues through integrative health care approach.
