Female should discuss Sexual problems -Seema Masurkar.

Dr. Seema Masurkar, Masurkar Hospital, Gokakdeliberating on topic, Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD). She highlighted that, 63% patients with infertility & 47% women without infertility face female sexual dysfunction. 

Majority of the women in society does not discuss sexual problems openly. In her deliberations Dr. Seema called on female folks to come forward and discuss their sexual issues without any inhibitions with their doctors. If sexual pleasure hindered at any point of time needs immediate medical advice and intervention. Listing out the reasons for sexual dysfunction (SD) she said; Sexual phobia, lubrication problems and fear of bleeding during 1st intercourse. Also, Sexual violence, dread. Sexual harassments can be overcome by discussing with doctors.  Shyness, guilt, anxiety are the causes women silently suffer and can’t discuss with partnersneed immediate attention. 

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Stroke, arthritis, can cause loss of interest in sexual contact. Menopause usually decreases interest in intercourse. Too much family burden preoccupied with official work for working women are also the reason.Loss of privacy in home causes sexual dysfunction.  Hormonal impairment is one of the factor in loss of sexual desire. 

How to overcome: 

Intense Counselling, motivation, encourage to discuss with partners, giving lot of time to listen to the women could be the best approach. History taking plays an important role to a great extent in reducing the sexual dysfunction. Hormonal study, NCDs also have poor SD, Sexual Transmitted Disease (STD) , women on long medication could also face  loss of interest, Alcohol, drug abuse are also the reason for reduction in sexual desire. Even after menopausal good sexual relations could be enjoyed by couples stressed Dr. Seema Masurkar.

Non-medical & Medical Interventions. • Education to a great extent solve the problems. • Counselling at early stage, • Erotic or non-erotic fantasies may help. • Warm bath before intercourse can help increase relaxation. 

Medical treatment: 

Anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, Estrogen therapy, HRT, Androgen therapy, Female Viagra, vaginal dilators, Antibiotics for vaginal infections. Each treatment module to be carefully chosen based on individual patient requirements. 

 

Dr. Seema cautioned, FSD is a warning sign of chronic diseases.  In her concluding remarks she batted saying, it is right of every female to have healthy sexual life. She also called on to freely discuss sexual problems with doctors. She hoped her presentation will usher mutual love, respect and enjoy full & content sexual life. Dr. Vanita Metgud introduced the speaker and all the delegates

Topic – 2 Dr. Sirish Malde, Consultant Sexologist, Mumbai, spoke on Infertility due to Sexual Dysfunction. He highlighted that, Sexual medicine and interfertility are intimately related. Infertility may be due to sexual dysfunction. Nearly 10% couples have Sexual Dysfunction (SD).

Dr. Sirish highlighted that, Cause of SD, Pre marriage sexual activities, erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory incompetence, severe premature ejaculations, absent of ejaculation are few of the important issues. SD could be male or female or there could be common factors. Dr. Saumaya Firdous introduced the speaker. 

 

Topic- 3 Dr. Vikram, Senior Urologist, KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital presented Surgical & Non-Medical Management or Erectile Dysfunction (ED). In his opening remarks Dr. Vikram said along with Roti, Kapad, Makan , Sex  is also an important part of the satisfied life. He called on the people to shed their stigma and openly discuss the sexual issues with doctors.  He discussed latest medicines and surgical options available to overcome ED. Dr. Vikram illustrated surgical procedures and various implants used to overcome the ED. Surgical procedures are safe, success rates are very good in young age group said Dr. Vikram.  He also presented various latest gadgets available to attain maximum erectile function. Dr. Akshay Metgud introduced.
